Community raises more than £30,000 for cancer charities

Following a gala-fundraising event held at The Point, Polzeath, in June, Rock Raises for Cancer has already donated nearly £30,000 to three cancer charities: Leukaemia UK, Breast Cancer UK and The Children’s Hospice, Southwest.

The event at the Point, which was attended by more than 130 people, marked the closure of the month-long charity online auction, which was generously supported by local businesses and individuals, donating bids which included holiday villas, original artwork and dining experiences.

As well as the online auction, guests were invited to bid for a small number of hand-picked items exclusively auctioned on the evening by professional auctioneer, Will Kerton. The event was generously sponsored by John Bray Estates, Quay 4 and Lucy Orr Interiors.

Following the gala evening, Gill West presented a cheque for £8956.45 to the Children’s Hospice South-

West. A further £9371.39 was sent to Breast Cancer UK and £10,696.45 to Leukaemia UK respectively.

Originally conceived in the summer of 2023 by a group of residents, some of whom had been affected directly (and indirectly) by cancer, the fundraising has, to date, exceeded expectations. As a result, Rock Raises for Cancer has committed to continue to raise money for the three nominated charities with a Winter Party night at The Pityme Inn on 9 November. The evening will include a meal and entertainment by Andy ‘the Crooner’ Marshall. Tickets and tables can be purchased in advance from Quay 4 or by emailing Rockr4c@gmail.com.

With individuals and businesses already committing to supporting future fundraising efforts, Rock Raises for Cancer has pledged to continue its fundraising efforts in 2025, raising money for cancer

charities working in Cornwall.
